I have been a high school music teacher for 11 years, and have been a student of music since I was 5 years old. I learned piano from my dad throughout primary school, then from a beloved professional piano teacher during high school and university.
I completed the Music 2 course for the HSC in 2004, and achieved my AMusA in piano while completing my Bachelor of Music Education degree at the University of New South Wales. I also aced my Grade 3-5 Musicianship Exams, most notably achieving 100% in Grade 5 Musicianship (AMEB).
I have taken five classes through the HSC Music 1 course in my current job, in which several have gained a Band 6. I also arrange and teach pieces of music for a combined choir with SATB voices for our annual school show, performed at NIDA.
I have an excellent ear, a passion for music therapy and performance, and a strong musical background. I embrace the fact that music is always changing, that the teacher can learn from the student just as much as the other way around, and that you always need to evolve with the times.
I taught piano lessons from the time I was in Year 9 until I was a professional music teacher. Students were in both primary and secondary school, with lessons ranging from casual and exploratory to serious exam preparation. The lesson style needs to fit the student and their goals.
