I have been learning piano since the age of 10. At 12 I was selected to attend the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School (VCASS), where I majored in Contemporary Piano.
I left VCASS to complete the IB Diploma, where I was awarded Dux of IB Music.
I believe students should be vocal in the kinds of pieces they wish to study, while also pushing themselves to try new styles and become varied and nuanced performers.
As part of my studies at VCASS, I studied Music Theory, Musicianship and Composition and thus had a rigorous understanding of concepts at an early age.
My speciality lies in jazz theory, but concepts such as ear training, note training, cadences, harmony and counterpoint are all important and will be covered.
I also ask students to create their own exercises so that they learn not only by doing, but also by teaching themselves e.g. constructing a basic fugue or a II-V-I progression.
However, I can also work from a very basic level and help students gain the basic skills required for appreciating music.
I have studied at Gay Wightman School of Ballet in North Balwyn, where I studied Borovansky Ballet, as well as Christa Cameron Ballet School, where I studied RAD Ballet to Grade 8 and Advanced Foundation.
I have also studied at the Australian Ballet School summer program.
Most recently, I was teaching ages 3-6 or 'Baby Toes' as part of the STEP program (Student Teacher Education Program) at Gay Wightman, but left to focus on completing my IB Diploma. As part of my teaching duties I also worked with students with special needs e.g. Autism Spectrum Disorder, where I learned effective communication in difficult settings.
I can work with students at a variety of levels from absolute beginner to advanced, and can create choreography and routines for competitions if need be.
