I have spent significant time during my Bachelor's degree, providing academic help in mathematics to school students residing in my neighbourhood. I graduated High School in 2013 with a score of 86% in mathematics and have always found teaching to be a passion for myself, considering it an opportunity to share knowledge. I also hold a Bachelor's degree in Electronics Engineering, making me quite used to complex mathematical operations.
I was able to clear my own IELTS test with an overall band score of 7.5, with an individual score of 8.5 each in reading and listening. My average handwriting failed me in scoring higher in writing, pulling down my overall score. However, I have earned a reputation at my Uni here, for submitting well-written and easy-to-read thesis assignments. Also, I attended coaching for my IELTS test in an education centre and moved on to work part-time for 6 months as a teaching assistant in the centre itself after my results.
I am a native Tamil Speaker and have had the language as one of my academic subjects throughout my school life in Singapore and India as well. I can offer tutoring in both written and spoken Tamil, making it a fun-filled learning experience. My dad has a doctorate in Tamil Language and has been a Tamil teacher in the Ministry of Education, Singapore, for 22 years now. So conversing in Tamil at home, despite being brought up in an English-speaking country like Singapore, has been an unwritten rule for me.
Apart from the IELTS band score of 7.5, my school studies, right from kindergarten to high school, was in Singapore, which till today I have pleasure in mentioning, as it is the only reason I am able to excel today in terms of written, verbal and inter-personal communication skills. Singapore has a very strict education policy with the English Language, making it a tough and also mandatory subject to be passed, in Secondary schools. I only realise now the perks of that, with most of my lecturers' attention drawn towards my writing quality in thesis assignments, in terms of grammar and vocabulary. Some of them have even mentioned that I sound like a native speaker of English.
